Today’s post is a quickie one to go with yesterday’s post about ideas for using clear Christmas ornaments. I wanted to take a bit of a walk-through at the dollar store (Dollar Tree) and show the breadth of options they have for filling or decorating your clear ornaments.
I discovered that our Dollar Tree does, in fact, sell clear ornaments. Only the kind that resembles a glass ball (with the cap on top), not the type that come apart. And they’re a really thin plastic. So depending on what you need, they might work, but for a lot of the decorating/filling options, you’ll need to shop elsewhere for your actual ornaments. (As I mentioned in yesterday’s post, Oriental Trading Company has a pretty good selection.)
I apologize in advance for the terrible photo quality in this post. I snapped these with my cell phone while shopping with my son — and the battery was so low it refused to use the flash. Hopefully you’ll get the idea, though, so you know what to look for!
Wrapping Paper: for cutting into strips and rolling up, or for decoupage
Gift Basket Filler (plain paper, or iridescent/metallic): for stuffing inside
Tiny Gift Bows: to tuck inside
Temporary Tattoos: to adhere to the outside of the ornaments
Stickers: for sticking on, obviously
Christmas-colored Pom Poms: for filler
Faux Snow: for filler
Fingernail Polish: for painting the insides
Decorative Christmas Doodads (bells, poinsettias, etc.): to attach to the exterior
Small Ornaments (like the packages at the right): to tuck inside
Glitter: for coating the interior
Rhinestones: for filler
Foam stickers: for sticking, of course
Mod Podge: for decoupage
Crayons: for shredding and melting inside
Hot Cocoa Mix: to put inside as a gift
Christmas Fake Flowers & Berries: to place inside
More Glitter: to coat the insides
Beads: as filler
Buttons: as filler
Garlands: cut short lengths and stuff inside
Fake Fruit & Birds: to tuck inside (That picture quality. Ouch. Sorry!)
Confetti: as filler
Butterflies (in the floral section): to tuck inside
