Ariel and I like having smoothies in the morning for breakfast, but with the weather getting colder, some days I just can’t bring myself to drink something icy! So, I adapted this recipe from another one I found. Warm winter smoothies are so much more pleasant on frosty mornings!
(Warm) Winter Apple Smoothie
Winter Apple Smoothie
Ingredients
- 1 c. milk
- 1 apple halved or quartered
- 2 Tbsp. oats
- 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
- dash honey
- pinch salt opt.
Instructions
- Place all ingredients in Vita-Mix and lock on lid.
- Run at variable, about speed 4 or 5, until apple is well chopped, then raise speed to high.
- Run for several minutes until hot.
You’ll want to drink this while it’s still hot (or warm), because if you let it get cold, it sort of “congeals” a little, due to the oats, and it’s kind of gross. But it’s delicious warm, and a nice change from the more typical cold smoothies.
If You Don’t Have a Vitamix
I’m guessing someone is going to ask what to do if they don’t have a Vitamix. This runs for several minutes to heat up, because the Vitamix will do that. The Vitamix also will handle the apple, core and all, in just a couple large chunks. If you don’t have a high-powered blender that can do that, cut the apple into whatever pieces you need to. And then (I haven’t done this, but it’s what I would do) heat the milk before adding it to the blender.
