This week’s installment of “things my children should know about me” is a typical day in my life right now. I found this one pretty difficult, due to my current season of life.
If I were healthy, a typical day would look something like this:
- Get up.
- Have quiet time.
- Exercise.
- (Probably check on blog in here somewhere.)
- Shower/dress/etc.
- Get the kids up and go through their morning routine.
- Eat breakfast.
- Schoolwork with the kids.
- Lunch.
- Blog stuff, etc. while the kids play outside.
- Miscellaneous other afternoon things – depending on what day of the week it is.
- Dinner.
- Evening with family.
- Kids’ bedtime.
- Time w/ Michael and/or doing stuff on my own.
- Bedtime.
But I’m not healthy. What I can find the energy for varies radically from day-to-day, which means that not only does planning ahead not work so well right now; the days I do have some energy I’m busy playing catchup from the days I didn’t. It takes me forever to figure out what I can eat, because my options have grown more and more limited.
And between the time it takes to prepare something I can eat, the time it takes eating it (because none of it is easy grab-and-go), diaper changes (um…for the kids, not me!), refills of bottles and sippy cups, and mediating fights…well, there really isn’t anything more than snatches of time in which to do anything that isn’t just a menial task of keeping us all alive for one more day.
So…a typical day in my life right now consists mostly of working to survive it and get to the next one, and lots of computer time (because the computer doesn’t require a lot of physical energy).
