It’s time for another installment of 30 Things My Children Should Know About Me. This time the topic is what I would wish for if I had 3 wishes.
1. Health
This one is a no-brainer. I don’t have to give any significant thought to what I’d wish for to know that being in vibrant health would make the top three.
Health-related issues impact every aspect of my life – and not in a good way. I can’t digest food properly, so I feel gross, I can’t keep my weight up, so I don’t feel attractive and my clothes never fit. I can’t fully enjoy gatherings/celebrations with friends and family, which almost always revolve around food.
I can’t enjoy the active activities (that sounds weird) that I used to, or even get as much accomplished around the house as I really need to. I can’t even keep up with nursing my baby sufficiently to keep him well-fed, which means he’s not only not getting the healthiest thing available, it’s killing our budget.
I have trouble keeping up with friends & church, and don’t have energy “left over” for ministry.
ALL of these things would go away if I were just completely, vibrantly healthy.
2. For everyone I know & love to be saved
Okay, so it might be nice if other people were, too. But I wouldn’t know, would I? So I will leave that wish for their loved ones. (God’s not really in the business of honoring wishes, anyway.)
3. Lots of money
I know, I know. This sounds super-greedy and unspiritual. But we are talking wishes, after all. 😉 More importantly, I don’t see money as an end but as a means to an end. Just about any practical problem can be addressed if you have good health & plenty of money.
That doesn’t only include having stuff you want or like, along with the ability to take care of your household’s needs without added stress or being distracted from important things by the need to focus on getting basic needs met. It also means being able to meet other people’s needs.
Can you imagine if you could pay for everything your household needs, enjoy some beautiful things (I do believe God created beauty to be enjoyed), and give at every opportunity, without ever having to worry about whether you’re able?!
It’s possible to be greedy or to be generous whether you have a lot or a little. But a generous person can more freely act on that generosity if he also has plenty of resources at his disposal.
So perhaps a better way to word this third wish would be “complete financial freedom.”
Rachel I have enjoyed checking out your blog! I will be praying for you for strength and encouragement as you raise your children and desire to plug into “ministry”! 🙂
Have a great weekend! Cathy
Thank you, Cathy!!
