The second section (in order of description, not necessarily in the order of the book itself) of my prayer notebook is the Church section.
This is where I will pray for the Church at large and, more specifically, our local church family. It can be helpful here to either have a photograph of your church, or your church’s sign, or a printout of the church logo, or something. Some visual indicator of “my church” to serve as a reminder.
If your church is very small, you might include photographs of the members. (Or, if your church is large, but you are part of a small group/cell group, you might include photographs of your small group members.) When we attended a church with a photo directory, I used a magazine holder to keep a copy of the directory in here. (Even if your directory is not pictorial, it could still be helpful to keep one in here if you are inclined to write cards to those you are thinking of/praying for.) It is also nice to have a picture of your pastor(s)/elder(s) and possibly his/their family/ies, so you can remember to pray for them regularly.
If your church, or some part of it – small group, prayer chain, etc. – sends out a regular list of prayer needs, you could print this out and place it in this section.
Mine is under construction, as I have not updated it since we moved and found a new church (which just goes to show you how behind I am!).
PrayingScriptures.com has pages of suggested ways to pray for our churches, pastors, and pastors’ families. Having not used these lists (yet) myself, I can’t necessarily vouch for them, but they should at least make for a helpful starting point.
Of course, you can pray whatever and however you like, but sometimes specific suggestions are helpful to me to overcome the prayer equivalent of “writer’s block.” 🙂
