I wrote a post – back before it was even a “post” – on my “static” site, about some of the things I do with 3-ring binders. I use these for seemingly everything; they are a key organizing tool for me. One of the uses I mentioned is my prayer notebook. I thought I’d do a series of posts about the individual sections in that binder, for any of you who might be interested in compiling your own.
The short synopsis is that I have a prayer category for each day of the week, and each of those has a section in the binder for prayer reminders. Because they’re in page protectors, the pages inside the protectors can be the (semi-)permanent stuff, and I can write more specific, short-term reminders on the outside with dry erase marker. (There is also the option to have a section or sections for other quiet-time related things, like your Bible reading plan, but that’s not what this post is about. 🙂 )
The first section I’m going to talk about is the Government section.
Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence.f

For this section, I print out the summary pages about each of our Senators and Congressmen from CapWiz. Then, using the White House’s website, I print a page for the President and one for the Vice-President. (Sometimes I print one for the First Lady, as well.) I like to print a summary page that has thumbnail photos of all of the cabinet members, but I’ve had a harder time finding such a thing since Obama took office. Some variation on that is helpful, though. And I print pages similar to the CapWiz pages for our state and local representatives.
PrayingScriptures.com has a page of suggested verses to pray for our leaders. They’re probably not all what I would choose, but the list should at least be a helpful starting point. Another good list is found on the bottom of this page at PrayforLeaders.org.
Of course, you can pray whatever and however you like, but sometimes specific suggestions are helpful to me to overcome the prayer equivalent of “writer’s block.” 🙂
