Sometimes you come across jewelry that’s completely perfect – except for the color. Maybe it’s silver, and you look better in gold. Or it’s gold and you look better in silver. Or it’s just some completely off color.
Or maybe you found something at the thrift store and it’s just plain worn out.
If it’s metal (and perhaps in some instances when it’s not), there’s a quick and inexpensive solution: metallic Sharpies.
My Experience
As an example, take these earrings.
I bought them pretty cheaply from 2 Dollar Jewelry. I knew the size and shape were good. (And these are wonderfully light for their size!) But they were silver. Which is okay for me, but not great. Bronze, on the other hand, is fantastic, as is a sort of pinkish copper (which is like the metallic version of coral).
So I bought a package of these:
…and simply colored the earrings. The bronze marker is really more of a new-penny copper color than what I would call “bronze,” but it still works well. Now these earrings are just right!
(If you’re looking for color, instead, or for more of a plastic-y or gem-type jewelry, consider nail polish! It provides a nice opaque, shiny finish – with a glittery or metallic look, if you like. Here’s a beautiful example of nail polish put to this use.)
