I’ve recently discovered a really great pen. Generally speaking, I use cheap Papermate or Bic pens, purchased on sale at the beginning of the school year. For the most part, they serve their function quite well. But sometimes — for journaling or letter-writing, for example — I would like to have a “fancier” pen, like a fountain pen. Most fountain pens are, unfortunately, pretty pricey. (Most calligraphy pens are technically fountain pens, but their nibs are not designed for the sort of fast, continuous writing most of us do when writing letters or journal entries.)
There is a disposable fountain pen, though! It’s called the Varsity, and I love it! It writes very smoothly, without skipping. It comes in a variety of colors, although I had to order it online and pay exorbitant shipping fees to get this variety. The black version was available at my local office supply store. (If you have a larger office supply store, you may be able to find several colors there.) I now have black, blue, turquoise, purple, and dark pink. Most of the time, I just use the black, but the others are fun to have on hand as options for journaling. I think my black pen cost about $3-4 – not any more than you would pay for any nice ballpoint or felt-tipped pen from Wal-Mart.
