I was at the dentist yesterday, or I would have shared this a little sooner. (Holistic dentist – fascinating experience, which I will share another time. But also lengthy.)
The doll is almost finished now. (Just a few more bangs to tie on – and trim – and then I can actually sew the wig to the head.) And the camera has new batteries, so I can show you pictures!
This is the face piece after I embroidered it. (The wet spots are where I removed the temporary fabric marker markings from the face.) I don’t really have any pictures of sewing the doll together.

The head is rather boxy. Oops. But considering I’ve never made a rag doll before and I drafted this pattern myself, I’m pretty pleased with it. Note the feet!

The instructions I found for attaching the hair (this is the long, tedious method, and probably not how I would do it next time) say to begin by crocheting a cap for the doll’s head. This is all done in hdc so that the spaces are large enough for tying hair onto later. The cap is not attached to the head yet!

Here is the wig after making some progress on it.

And again. Here you can see it on the doll’s head.

Almost finished. I think I overkilled on the yarn. When I first started, I tried tying one piece of yarn through each hole. It looked as though it was going to be so spread out that it would just look sparse, so I switched to two. I’m not sure that was really necessary. This is a lot of hair, and the doll is probably going to be quite top-heavy! I will trim the bangs (much!) shorter once they are all tied on. (I got about halfway between the last picture and this one, and someone gave me instructions for attaching the hair the easy way. lol Next time I think I’ll try that.)

From this angle you can see a little better. I have about a row-and-a-half of cap on which to tie hair. Then I can trim it and sew the cap on. It’s a beautiful head of hair (if I do say so myself)! But it’s quite a lot of hair to be manageable on a doll.

I was feeling pretty good about it until I realized just how close we are to Christmas now! I still have to sew this wig on and make sure that Aggie is not naked when Sophia opens her up on Christmas morning – yikes!
Aggie is a lovely name! Not that I’m biased or anything
Oh how cute. What a good mommy you are. Ü
I want the patterns.
