When I posted last week about wearing skirts, Shannon asked a very good question: What shoes do we wear with skirts when it’s not cold enough for boots or hot enough for sandals? I asked my sister, who is the “shoe expert” of the family, having very successfully managed a shoe store for many years now. Here are Susan’s recommendations. 🙂
Low heeled sling backs are a great option. They can be worn spring thru fall and are generally more comfortable than full closed in shoes. Ballerina or dressy mary jane flats work well too. 🙂 The majority of my customers every day are looking to solve this exact same issue. lol. Here’s some ideas of some of our best sellers for this issue:
She goes on to offer several links. (These are all to her brand of shoes, because it’s what she’s familiar with and she can quickly point out a specific example, but, obviously, you can buy whatever brand fits your budget.)
Quilts Slingback
Merry Slingback
Darice Slingback (I like this one, as it has a “sturdier” look to it, without being clunky.)
Kian Mary Jane (This one looks great, too. It doesn’t have the “chunky” sole that many Mary Jane/sneaker crosses have, but it still seems to have a more “casual” type of sole.)
Jolie Flat
(Be sure to check the sidebar options for items “you might also like,” as I saw a number of options there that look like they would fit the bill.)
This discontinued item an example of a not-too-basic ballet flat:
For someone like me who over-pronates (my ankle turns inward when I stand) and can only wear ankle straps or T-straps, this would be a great option:
Ansley Pump (probably a bit dressy for what most of you are looking for, but would solve the ankle strap problem)
Btw, Target has lots of great options for dressy flats. 🙂 These would all be pretty without being too dressy.
Lot of options! (Now I’m wondering why I had such a hard time. Susan makes it seem so easy! lol)
Shoes just seem like such a commitment. I’m cheap, and get most of my clothes second-hand. Good shoes are hard to come by at a thrift store.
What a fun post! I am in need of shoes just like these – and they are so feminine and practical at the same time. You gave me some great inspiration – thanks!
Me, too. (I buy secondhand clothes and rarely see good shoes.) I read at Balancing Beauty and Bedlam (link in my sidebar), and Jen always has great shoes – all of which she buys at thrift stores and yard sales. That has always amazed me, as I so rarely see decent shoes at any of these places.
Oh thanks! How exciting. I like that 3rd Easy Spirit link real well for wearing around the house. But, I too do mostly thrift store, or this time of year, or buy from yard sales. Now I can at least keep my eyes open for these types of styles.
I’m curious to find out what blog system you have been utilizing? I’m experiencing some minor security issues with my latest blog and I would like to find something more safe. Do you have any suggestions?
