I use sticky notes a lot. I find them very useful for a number of different things. For instance, I don’t keep a to-do-today list; I just keep a running “needs-to-be-done” list. But if there are one or two items off that list that are particularly pressing, I will jot them on a sticky note and stick it to the current day in my calendar. (My sister actually keeps up with pretty much all of her to-do’s by means of Post-Its.)
Other uses, though, could include:
- Reading magazines efficiently
- Reading library books efficiently (See above post; I use them essentially the same way for library books.)
- Marking up recipes if you can’t bring yourself to write in your cookbooks. (NoteTabs
are especially well-suited for this.)
- Making notes in books if you’re not a book-marker, or if you’ve borrowed a book.
- Noting objectionable content in a book. (Non-child-appropriate references, for instance. Obviously not “throw-the-book-out” content, or you would just throw the book out!)
- As “masks” for portions of the page when prepping journal pages or when crafting (rubber stamping, for instance).
- As temporary tabs. (Obviously, actual Post-It tabs are designed for this use. Regular sticky notes work, too, though, if you only need them once in a while.)
- When organizing or sorting, to temporarily label cabinets, drawers, boxes, stacks, etc.
- To instruct your student(s) as to which pages to read in a particular book.
If you’d like to make an inexpensive gift out of a Post-It pad, check out this tutorial from Skip to My Lou.
(If you’re not worried about brand, keep your eyes on the Staples sales. They have their store-brand sticky notes on sale really cheap on a fairly regular basis.)
Do you have another use for these notes? I’d love to hear about it in the comments. In particular, I’d like to know how you use any of the specialty types, but uses for any sticky notes are welcome!
