To recap, here’s this section of my 101 in 1001 list:
1. Read the Bible each year (so 2x during 1001 days).
2. Memorize at least one verse/passage a month for a year.
3. For one month, record one thing every day that made me happy/thankful.
4. Start and keep a Bible verse journal.
5. Go a whole day without complaining, on 5 different occasions.
6. Refresh my quiet time notebook.
7. Create a prayer basket.
8. Learn a new hymn.

I always find it difficult to set spiritual goals, because real spiritual growth is pretty difficult to measure. Since a goal should be measurable, this causes a problem! This section, as a result, is considerably shorter than it ideally should be (if you consider how much needs to happen/change/grow spiritually). The best solution I have been able to find so far (although if you have found a better one, I’d love to hear it!) is to quantify the spiritual disciplines that encourage growth. It is also worth noting that certain goals – I’m thinking in particular of number five – are far less than what I should ultimately be aiming for. But my hope is that the act of focusing on attaining the goal outlined above will result in more growth than just that which is quantified.
Number six refers to the prayer notebook I describe on my website. I have expanded it a bit to contain the notes and things I use on a daily basis during my Bible reading, and it periodically needs to be “redone,” as photos need to be updated and the contents adjusted for our current location.
The prayer basket to which number seven refers is one I read about on Training Hearts.
