What is Wantable.co?
Speaking of jewelry, I was recently introduced to Wantable.co. I’m sure you’re familiar by now with the concept of curated monthly boxes; it’s a business concept that seems to have really exploded over the last year or so. Wantable offers a box of jewelry (or cosmetics – I haven’t seen what the cosmetics boxes look like, though), curated to match the profile you set up. One of the things I really like about it is that you can subscribe for a monthly box OR you can just order a single box.
The folks at Wantable sent me a box so I could check it out. All in all, I was pretty impressed with how well they did curating the box. You get to choose things like the size(s) you prefer, what metals/materials you like, certain themes you want or don’t want, etc. I do wish that colors and general shapes could be selected, as a couple of these pieces were almost-but-not-quite right for me. It’s a new company, though, and they’re open to feedback, so perhaps this is a change they’ll make in the future. Although a couple of these pieces missed the mark in a single element, every one of them was at least almost right. In other words, they’re definitely on the right track when it comes to sorting out what individual buyers will want. (And perhaps most customers aren’t as picky as I am!)
The Box
When the box arrived, I was pleased to see this great feature: a pull tab on the box to make opening it easy!
It came with a packet of information…
…including some tips on how to wear the pieces. This is particularly helpful for those who (like me) are pretty new to compiling outfits.
^Here you can see a portion of the tips for wearing the jewelry in my box. ^
The Jewelry
Underneath the paperwork, everything was nicely wrapped in black tissue paper. My box included four primary pieces: two pairs of earrings and two necklaces. (The necklaces were each accompanied by matching earrings, so these served as a couple of “bonus” pieces.) They were wrapped separately, and carefully, so nothing tangled. Here’s what I got.
This is a bronze-colored necklace (with earrings). This was one of my near-matches. This color is perfect. (It matches my hair so well that if I wear the earrings, they blend right in!) and the scribbly shapes are irregular and angular enough to be a great fit for my features. The necklace is a little strange, though, in that it’s really, really long, with a lot of space between each shape, so it’s a bit awkward to wear. I really love it, so I might see about taking it apart and using the pieces another way.
This other necklace is right on-target color-wise, as well. And again, the irregular, angular shape is good for me. Something about it just isn’t quite right, and I can’t even put my finger on what. (It’s also really, really long. I think I might need to tweak the necklace setting on my profile.) It, too, came with matching earrings. They are very small studs. You can’t see them well in the photo (I apologize for the photo quality in general in this post), but see those little wired “nests” on the necklace, with the red stones in the middle? Those are what the earrings look like.
These earrings are, again, perfect colors. The size is fantastic, as well. (I have to wear surprisingly large jewelry, given my size, to balance my features and bone structure.) But these are sooo round. And my face is sooo not. So round earrings are not my best bet. Bummer, though, because I really like these. If they were only teardrops…
And this last pair is utterly perfect. The colors are great. The size is great. The shape is great. These are a favorite on me, among everyone who sees them. Definitely keepers.
See?
I really like the idea of being able to “input” what I want, and have someone else narrow down what might work for me. But, like I said, I think color and shape would be important additions. Interested in checking it out? You can sign up and fill out the profile without committing to anything, if you want to see what sorts of things are on the questionnaire. (You can gift a box, too, and the recipient will be able to fill out her own profile.)
