I find it difficult to get decent maternity clothes that come small enough. Very few manufacturers sell XS’s. Add to that the fact that not just any style or color is going to suit any particular individual, and…well, it just gets really difficult. I was excited when I stumbled across Everly Grey. Stylish, but not overly trendy, I love the classiness that is characteristic of their line overall. And they come in XS! Of course, not everything is my style, but I got to review a few pieces, and I really love them.
This Kaitlyn wrap dress is my favorite. In the sunlight, it looks like it’s just black and white, but it’s not. It’s a leopard print, and there’s actually a good bit of grey in there that isn’t obvious in the picture. It’s cut beautifully! The half-sleeves are a flattering length, and the style adjusts easily a fairly wide range of body types and to a growing belly. 🙂
I did find that the weight of the jersey made the part of the straps that wrapped around me sort of “fall down” after a while, which is why you see a little bit of bunching at the sides above the empire line. But this is definitely a favorite! It says it’s cut to just above the knee, but I’m short, so it actually falls to just below the knee, which is perfect.
My next favorite(s) are the Gabby Work Pant and the Clara Jacket. Together they form something of a suit, but split up, they are quite versatile. I was a little nervous that the pieces might not be extra-small enough, but they actually fit very nicely, apart from the fact that the pants need serious hemming to fit me right!
The jacket is the one thing I feel isn’t at its best early on. It could just be because I’m short, though – perhaps it hits me lower. I feel like it makes me look a little thick because my belly isn’t big enough yet to push the jacket hem out into a more flattering silhouette. It’s still useful for adding warmth, though, as seen above. (I’m on a hill, by the way, so that’s why I might look like I’m striking some awkward stances.)
Here’s the full “suit.” (That’s an Old Navy criss-cross maternity tank underneath. It’s a bit long yet, but it tucked up under itself nicely.) This is a charcoal color. I like it, although something with a slightly “taupe” cast is even better for me. (That’s a notoriously difficult color to find, though!) The hems on these are fantastic – they’re wide and sort of “heavy” – almost weighted – so they hang beautifully. Except that they’re about 4 inches too long for me, so I will need to have them re-hemmed.
The waistband, on the other hand, fits beautifully, even early in pregnancy. I had no trouble getting these to stay up.
For a slightly more casual look, unbutton the jacket:
The final piece I tried on was the Kendall Fall Top. It’s extremely comfortable, but probably not as well-suited to my body type as the others. It feels a little larger overall, too – it fits okay now, but I think it will be better once I have a bigger belly to “fill it up.”
(I’m not sure what happened with the light, that it suddenly started washing me out!)
And this is what I ultimately decided to wear for the day: 🙂
The jacket added the warmth I needed for the chilly fall day, but I don’t trip over my jeans. 😉 (Gotta go get those dress pants hemmed!)
