It seems that nowadays almost everyone is in 24/7 contact with their cell phones. Unfortunately, that often means we’re more engaged with our phones than with those around us. Why not use the phones instead, to engage with those around you? Game of Phones is the perfect game for doing just that.
Like MIXTAPE, Game of Phones is compact, requiring only the box of cards and the players’ smartphones.
These photos are actually a little larger-than-life. The box is about 4×5.5×1.5 inches. It does include a set of brief instructions.
We haven’t been through every card, but so far we haven’t come across anything indecent. The age range on this one seems to be primarily because social media accounts the like aren’t options for younger kids, so they would have difficulty with some of the challenges.
The challenges include a good deal of variety. Some involve the players’ ability to use search, social media, and texting well. Like answering a question in emojis, texting someone with your eyes closed, or finding something quickly through search. Others involve your digital history, such as finding an old text about the weather.
It’s a good way for the smartphone-savvy to show off their skills, but it can also be a good way to help newer smartphone users develop their skills.
This game is a good party game, and it’s especially popular with teens. The one down side I see to it is that it requires 3 players so it can’t be played as a couple. (Otherwise, I think this would be a fun date night game!)
