I’m sure you’re all aware that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. If you go to the store, you can hardly miss it – everything’s pink! As you’re shopping, please read labels. I’m all for supporting breast cancer research (‘though I doubt it will do a lot of good, because any real cures that arise are of the non-patentable variety, and tend to get squashed), but I cannot in good conscience do so by helping support the Komen Foundation. I’ve written about this topic before, so I won’t go there again; if you’re interested, you can read my articles from the past few Octobers. (They’re probably linked at the bottom of this post as “related posts.”)
What I do want to do is pass on this article from Woman’s Day. The title is 20 Things You Should Know About Breast Cancer. I think that’s a good way to raise awareness – by helping each other learn! So head on over to read the article. It just might save your life or a friend’s life (or alleviate some fears or concerns.)
There’s one other thing I’d like to add, though. It’s crazy to me that they don’t include this in these sorts of articles, but one of the biggest lifestyle choices you can make to decrease your chances of developing breast cancer is to have lots of babies and nurse them for a long time! (Being mamas really is good for us!)
