Who/What is CrossTimber?
I was first introduced to CrossTimber early last year when I won a giveaway. I’m glad I did, because I really like this company and what they’re doing.
You’ve probably seen gifts before with name meanings on them; what makes CrossTimber different is that they seek to make these meaningful and uplifting. So if, for instance, your name means “white” — well, okay, that’s a meaning, but it isn’t overtly encouraging and may not particularly make you feel special. So the CrossTimber team digs a little deeper until they’re able to put a spin on it that conveys more. So where some companies might just print “white” (or maybe “white, fair, shining”), CrossTimber uses one of the variants of the traditional meaning — and even puts a bit of a figurative spin on it, and instead we get this:
Bianca
From: Italian
Fair and Beautiful:
Pure, Innocent before God;
Woman of Wisdom
Proverbs 4:5,7
Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth… Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.
Beautiful, right? Nothing wrong with “white,” but this is so much richer — and that’s what they aim for with every name.
Unusual Names
What makes CrossTimber even more amazing is that if they don’t have a name already in their database, they’ll make it. This makes their products an especially wonderful option for those whose names are unusual or “made up,” or otherwise difficult to find meanings for. Here’s a closer look at the one I asked them to make for my granddad:
As you can probably imagine, McHerron isn’t in a lot of baby name books. It isn’t even typically a “given name”; it’s a surname that was inherited as a given name. But the family behind CrossTimber researched it and came up with this. I love it. (It’s especially neat for the patriarch of our family, who has been a protector of the little piece of the Church that is our family, and started us all off on a sure foundation of faith. It’s impossible to put a value on the legacy of faith, and I think it’s wonderful that his name mug honors that, in a way.)
If mugs aren’t your thing, don’t worry; they have other options: plaques and music boxes and bookmarks, etc.
Right now, they have another giveaway happening. (Enter giveaway.) It ends on December 4th so winners have the opportunity to receive their gifts in time for Christmas.
