Einstein’s Puzzle Universe
I’m not entirely sure where to start with this book; it’s unique. The primary focus of the book is the 134 riddles it contains. The riddles are inspired by the things that occupied Albert Einstein’s imagination. Their difficulty will vary, depending on the reader’s individual strengths and weaknesses, but these are not your average internet puzzle that circulates to make you feel smart. Some of these are real stumpers! This is an excellent book for those who like to be challenged to think.
More than Puzzles
To say that this is book of puzzles or a book of riddles, though, would sell it short. That’s the heart of the content, but there’s more to it than that. This is truly a tribute to Einstein. There are quotes and images of him sprinkled throughout the book.
More than that, this is a surprisingly beautiful book. The quality is excellent; it’s a hardcover with a sewn binding. And the aesthetics are fantastic. The design is quirky and a little retro, which is fitting for a book honoring Albert Einstein, but it’s true design.
The pages have a background of graph paper, with borders of equations, all made to appear aged. The heading use a font that brings to mind careful sketches of inventions. Virtually every page has at least one picture. Here’s a little taste of the design style:
This is just a really lovely book and would make a wonderful gift. This is my first introduction to the publisher, and now I’m curious about what else they publish, because I’m very impressed by the overall quality of this one!
Do be aware that it was written and published in the United Kingdom, so you’ll see metric measurements and terms like “anticlockwise” (“counterclockwise,” for those who aren’t sure what that means), so don’t let that throw you off.
