When I say Fearless, I’m not talking about Taylor Swift music. It’s Max Lucado’s newest book, which I had the privilege of previewing prior to its release date (today!). Pastor Lucado addresses the fears that we all hold. Facing each one head-on, he disassembles it with the truth of Scripture.
I’m not quite sure what I expected Fearless to be, but this wasn’t it. What it is, however, is excellent! One by one, Lucado confronts our fears. Fear of death. Fear of not mattering Fear of failing to protect our children. And nine other ungodly fears we all – or nearly all – harbor at some point or another. In every instance, he points us back to the Savior, the Word, and His Sovereignty. If God is in control (and He is!), then we need not fear. Pithy quotes and, in classic Max Lucado style, stories, bring the words to life, drive home his point, and provide easy-to-call-to-remembrance assurance.
Lucado follows the discussion of these twelve fears with one more: the healthy and appropriate fear of God Himself. Asserting that as we learn to fear God, that fear replaces all other fears, he reminds us that God is – well, God. Isn’t that a reminder we can all use on occasion?
