The Towel Rack Problem
Moving onto bathrooms, I have to show you another product. This is one I’m really excited about, because it solves a significant problem we had with our bathroom.
When we moved into our house, there were four of us. (Now there are five.) There is exactly one towel rod in our bathroom. If you scrunch them up, you can sort of fit two towels there (but they won’t dry very fast). That leaves at least two, maybe three, more towels. If we hang them over the shower rod, it makes it hard for other people to take showers, flips the curtain rings upside-down (and then they get stuck), and even ends up putting hair on the ceiling (’cause we short people have to fling our towels up there). Or we’d hang them over the half-wall between the counter and toilet.

We bought an over-the door rack, but it caused a whole new set of problems. So that you can get to all the towels, the racks are “stepped” in depth. But there’s a medicine cabinet behind the door. The rack would hit the cabinet, and bounce off. The door didn’t open completely, and the rack ended up bent.

Then I saw the Hinge-It rack from Household Essentials. What a smart idea! It attaches to the hinges of the bathroom door and lies (more or less) flat against the door. The depth doesn’t need to vary, because each arm swings independently.
They do tend to swing open when the door is closed, but when we open it…it will now open all the way! Because it has spaces for four towels, we now have plenty of towel space in the bathroom.
It was easy to assemble, and I don’t think it was hard to install (‘though my hubby did the installation part, because I’m short and he’s better able to reach the upper hinge.)
This has definitely been a nice addition to our bathroom — it’s great to not get stuck in the door anymore!
