We have a set of Family Talk cards on our dining room table. They provide questions to prompt discussion, and Ariel loves to choose cards from the deck. (They’re secular cards, so we do occasionally have to “reword” the questions. I haven’t seen anything inappropriate, but sometimes they just don’t quite fit.) The other night, the question was what you would spend the money on if you won the lottery. We don’t actually play the lottery, but it’s still fun to talk about what we’d do with a sudden windfall!
Ariel said that she would contribute to “that Seed Company project” and take a trip to Hawaii. (Her grandparents are visiting in Hawaii as we speak, which is what prompted that idea.) I was glad to hear that giving to bless others was one of her first thoughts. And giving to provide Scripture? What better way to bless someone?!
Interestingly, last night’s question was “How are you generous? Could you be more generous?” Could we be? Could we contribute more? Could we embrace a more generous spirit by having a greater appreciation for what we have? I know I take the Scripture I have available to me far too much for granted.
The Vidunda people of Tanzania have been exploited and abused over the years, so they’re not very trusting of outsiders. Many of them profess Christianity — yet they do not have the Scriptures in their own language, so they are unable to walk in the full freedom the Truth brings. They are still enslaved to witchcraft and superstition. Please pray for them. Pray for the Truth to be brought to them. Pray that God will send workers into His field, where the harvest is plenty. The last verse translated for the Vidunda was Matthew 26:2:
“You know that after two days is the Passover, and the Son of Man will be delivered up to be crucified.”
Passover is coming in less than a month. Let’s meditate on this together, remembering the sacrifice that Jesus made for us. And pray with me this month that God will make this very, very real to the Vidunda.
