From the moment I heard about the Pirose Fashion or Nursing Cover from Reno Rose, I thought it was a brilliant concept. When I got the opportunity, through Mama Buzz, to review it, I was excited. The Pirose nursing cover is a specially-shaped scarf. The beauty of the design is its versatility: the Pirose can be used as a nursing cover, a stroller cover, or in a variety of ways as a fashion accessory.
I didn’t find mine to be as useful for fashion purposes. I’m pretty inept when it comes to fashion, and I couldn’t manage to make it “do” anything attractive, despite instructions. Those less inept probably won’t have any difficulty. 🙂 Another issue I had was sizing. The company recommends either the medium or the large for nursing, so mama gets sufficient coverage. I really debated when choosing the size because, even though I intended to use it for nursing, I am very small. On the other hand, I’m pretty busty for my (overall) size, so I thought I might need the medium and, ultimately, went with that. This makes it pretty big for a fashion accessory.
Even at that, it is great as a nursing cover. It provides good coverage, but it’s lightweight. This makes it easy to pack, and lets the baby breathe! (With a blanket or something, I always feel like I’m smothering the baby.) It is a little see-through if you’re holding it up to the light (which is why the company also suggests using prints, rather than solids, for nursing coverage), but it seems to cover just fine once it’s against the baby and me. And I feel much more attractive wearing it than using the average nursing cover.
I don’t have a stroller or carrier-type carseat, so I have not used my Pirose for that, but it can also be used over the handle of either of these, to help filter the sunlight off of baby.
Those who aren’t nursing can use it just as an accessory. So if you don’t have babies, but just really love the prints, you can order one anyway. 😉 And if you’re in your childbearing years, you can get use out of it even between babies. (I love clothing and accessories that will take me through pre-pregnancy, pregnancy, and nursing, so I don’t need three totally separate wardrobes.)
