Today is my eldest daughter’s 9th birthday. (How did my baby grow up so fast?!) To celebrate, we settled on a spy training-themed birthday party. She is really into mysteries and detective work, so when I saw this idea at Chicken Babies, I knew she would love it. When she heard the idea, she was thrilled.
To a large degree, we just did what they did. (Why do work someone else has already done, right?) We added our own dimension to the invitations, though, and tweaked a few things.
As guests arrived, we photographed them and they selected their spy names. Then the party got started with games designed to hone their spying abilities. We tested their memory, their ability to evade (pretend) security lasers, and their ability to crack codes and follow clues. These last two were accomplished by means of a scavenger hunt. We chose a primarily Scripture-based scavenger hunt. Upon completing the scavenger hunt, they found their spy kits (goody bags), along with their first mission assignment – the eating of cake.
Our cake was a cheesecake (gluten-free, so Mama could also enjoy it), decorated to look like a magnifying glass.
The girls all seemed to have a good time. Over the next couple of weeks, I’ll share more details about some of these party elements, in case anyone else is interested in throwing a similar party.

This sounds so amazing. Both my girls are still little but my oldest would love this type of party. I’ll have to file it for when she’s older.
This is such a fun idea! I will keep it in mind for my oldest son – it’s right up his alley.
This is my first time to visit your blog, and I’m definitely going to look around a bit! The homemaker verses in Titus are some of my very favorite in scripture…and we’re planning to name the baby I’m carrying right now Titus if he’s a boy! 🙂
Hi, Megan; I’m glad you came by!
