The Problem (Hardened Spices)
Have you ever had onion powder (or another powdered/ground spice) that looked like this? It was driving me crazy that I had to crush my onion powder every time I needed to measure some out.
Then one day it occurred to me that the method I use for grinding whole spices into powder would probably work for re-powdering onion powder hardened in the jar. So I tried it — and it worked!
The Solution
The trick? Use your coffee grinder. I tossed this in, whirred it in the coffee grinder for a few seconds, and got this:

I use my blender to re-powder hardened spices.
How do you get it out of the large store bought plastic containers.Its half full and hard!!
Unfortunately, I haven’t found a solution to that yet — when the opening of the container is smaller around than the chunk of powder. If you CAN get a butter knife in there and break it up into chunks that are small enough to fit through the opening, that’s the best option I know of. 🙁
