I never thought I would have a video game system in my house. Then came the Wii. Although I’m not a big fan of every game they make for the Wii, I have to admit that it’s different from most other video game systems, in that it has a lot of games that are very physically active. Most recently, we acquired Fit Plus. Actually, my “daughter” gave it to me for my birthday. (That is, my daughter essentially asked her daddy to buy it for my birthday.)
I am loving it. It isn’t difficult to get motivated to exercise. (Well, okay, it’s not as difficult as it used to be.) Variety is easy. And I’m far more inclined to work at areas I wouldn’t otherwise, because the rest of my family focuses on different games than I do, and the more they talk about them, the more I want to try them out. 🙂 So I’m gaining practice in eye-hand coordination, balance, and subtle adjustments (not over-adjusting to change direction, etc.) that I would otherwise not be getting. It tracks my weight and BMI, and how often I’ve worked out. And on top of all that, it takes up a lot less space than a treadmill!
And — unlike regular exercise equipment — we can use it for other things if we choose. For instance, there’s a ballet game out now that my girls will love. (I think one of them will probably be getting it for a birthday this summer.) It will let them practice ballet steps.
Those who prefer more traditional workouts can get something like the Jillian Michaels workout, instead.
And those of us who homeschool and, therefore, have children at home all the time, can send the kids to do something on Wii and burn off some of their excess energy even when it’s raining. That definitely works for me!
Thank you to Aptus Life Insurance.
A little girl I was babysitting asked me to play Wii Sports with her one time. It really is a workout!
I love my wii fit too! I need to start up again! Great post! I’m going to HS my kids as well so I will be sure to come back and read more of your posts! Come by some time!
We love our Wii Fit too. My DD8 loves it so much that she gets up every weekday morning to do 15 minutes on “My Fitness Coach.” I’ve gotten out of the habit because I end up telling myself that it’s not a “real” workout. Which is absolutely wrong, because I also have EA Active, and it’s such a good workout that I’m frightened to put it in.
Thanks for the inspiration!
It sounds great! I have never seen one or used one! i thought it was just like a Play Station! I’ll have to look into it!
With college age sons that seem at times addicted to video games I have worried about exposing the little ones to them. We don’t have game system right now but I have certainly considered the Wii because of the work out capabilities.
Interesting post.
I’m also here for your weekly reminder that the link is up for you to share any gardening post you have for the kinderGARDENS contest. It will be active today through next Wednesday so link up anytime.
Have a super day, Kim
