…to continue the discussion from yesterday, one seemingly contradictory thing that comes to light with study is that a greater consumption of fats can actually encourage weight loss! Excess body fat usually comes from sugars and (usually refined) starches, rather than fat, because sugars and starches are burned for energy and the body stores excess energy as fat. Meanwhile, the body is designed in such a way that it’s difficult to consume large quantities of excess dietary fats — we’d likely make ourselves sick first.
The Schwarzbein Principle was the first book to really clarify for me how this works. I am now reading Fats that Heal, Fats that Kill. It’s fascinating and very clearly-written, and definitely sheds some light on this subject (although it’s much more in-depth than just a discussion of weight loss). I imagine that Eat Fat, Lose Fat is a beneficial read on this subject, as well, although I have not yet read it, myself.
