For years, I have been wanting to help my littlest ones – the non-readers – to have their own quiet time. I wanted to get the whole Bible on tape/CD, but it was so expensive, and took up so much space, that we never got that far. Then, Hendrickson came out with the NKJV Complete Audio Bible on MP3. It’s very cost-effective, and the whole thing is contained in a standard-sized DVD case!
(Hendrickson is really great about putting out unique formats of the Bible. I have a loose-leaf version from them, too, that’s great for keeping lots of notes filed with the relevant passages.)
I know that some people prefer the dramatized versions of audio Bibles. The dramatized version may even be more compelling for my older children. I was concerned, though, that parts of the Bible might be scary for little ones in the dramatized version, so I chose to stick with this one, which is just the straight Scripture being read. And it’s NKJV because that’s our family’s preferred version.
This set actually contains two separate formats: a DVD and several CD’s.
The DVD would be great for travel with a laptop. The single DVD contains the entire Bible. It also holds some PDF’s with various reading plans, that allow you to jump directly to particular passages. The whole thing is then included on CD, as well, although it takes several CD’s to hold the whole thing. These can easily be loaded onto an mp3 player, or should be playable on most modern CD players.
I’m looking forward to using this to help save my voice sometimes when the girls and I read together in the mornings, as well as using it for “quiet times” for Sophia and Livia. The DVD will probably reside permanently in my laptop bag.
This would be a great tool for anyone who is on the road a lot, has young children, or is a strongly auditory learner.
Dislosure: I received a free copy of this audio Bible to facilitate this review. As always, all opinions are purely my own.
