There has been a lot of talk in Christian circles lately about the movie Courageous. What many people don’t know is that there is also a novelization
.
I actually haven’t seen the movie, so I don’t know how it compares, what content from the book was in the movie, etc., but it was an excellent story. For those of you who are not familiar, the story centers around a group of sheriff’s deputies in Georgia. When tragedy strikes, these men are reminded of what really matters. Together, they vow to work harder at being the husbands and fathers their families need.
Because of the subject matter, this is a good book for men. (It’s also a fairly easy read, so it isn’t too time-consuming.) However, as a woman, I enjoyed it, too, for the sake of the story.
My only complaint – and it’s a minor one – is that some of the “issues” these dads encountered were resolved more neatly than is usually the case in real life. I think this has more to do with the space allotted for a written story, though, than anything else. Enough serious issues were dealt with that it’s clear no one is implying that everything in life is simple.
One word of warning: even for men, this is likely to be something of a tearjerker.
