The Prince’s Poison Cup
by R.C. Sproul
The Prince’s Poison Cup is part of series of children’s titles written by R.C. Sproul to illustrate “deep biblical truths.” (The first, The Lightlings
, will be highlighted – and given away! – here later. You’ll also see The Priest With Dirty Clothes
.)
In this story, a little girl, Ella, asks her grandfather why medicine tastes so bad if it’s designed to make us better. He replies with a story about a good-looking fountain of water that brings death and a cup of poison that ultimately brings about healing and life. This is an allegory for the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil in the Garden of Eden, and the “cup” that Jesus had to drink to redeem us.
It does an excellent job, in my opinion, of making these truths accessible to young children. Justin Gerard’s illustrations are a wonderful accompaniment!
The story is followed by four pages for parents of discussion ideas and helpful Scripture references.
(If your children like movies, this is also available in DVD format.)
Definitely recommended!
