Last week we talked about crafted gifts – that is, gifts you create for the recipient. This week, we’re talking about crafty gifts – that is, gifts that encourage creativity on the part of the recipient. (And unique/unusual gifts, but that’s another post.)
For the Crafter
If your recipient is already a crafter or an artist, the gift potential in this category may be obvious. Of course, if the recipient sews, you can get patterns or fabric or thread or notions. If he knits, you can get knitting needles, books, or yarn. A photographer might appreciate a camera bag or designer strap.
Consider “peripheral” ideas, too, though. A hook roll for the crocheter. Yarn storage for the crocheter or knitter. Pattern organization for the seamstress.
For the Not-Yet-Crafter
If your recipient doesn’t have a craft-related hobby, you can still give a gift that will encourage creativity. A few examples:
- learn-to-____ kit: provide all of the basic supplies to get started in a a craft
- blank tote, shoes, apron, etc. or white handkerchief, with fabric markers
- Wreck This Journal
or another “do-it-yourself”-type journaling book
- paint by numbers book or kit
For other ideas, see the crafty/crafted gift ideas category of the Gift Guide.
