You may or may not be familiar with Dr. Woods. Free of all the standard “yuckies” in personal care products, Dr. Woods products are simply pure, clean castile soap. A number of scents are available, in both bar and liquid forms. We received the “baby mild” liquid soap to try out, as I thought it would be a good basic to add essential oils to if you wanted to do that.
Ours has a very (very!) mild scent, but it appears that the company has recently begun making the Baby Mild unscented. It’s a very thin liquid (not very viscous) and, like many (most?) natural soaps, it doesn’t lather a lot. We found this made it a little difficult to use for washing our little one’s hair, but it still worked fine for her body. I have used it to wash my own hair with acceptable results (as good as is to be expected with soap, which isn’t really designed for washing long hair, especially in hard water!), but I have to pour it straight onto my hair, rather than trying to lather it in my hands first.
For other soapy purposes, it works great, too. It’s probably excellent for use in homemade all-purpose cleaner, because it doesn’t suds too much. Castile soap is wonderful for bathing, for hands, etc., as well as anything around the house that needs washing: counters, refrigerators, hand-washing laundry… It’s basic and mild so it’s not damaging to surfaces. It’s not generally drying to begin with, but the shea butter in these ensures that it really isn’t drying, as it’s full of vitamins A and E.
Dr. Woods soaps are proudly made right here in the U.S. Of course, you can order them through the manufacturer’s website. I’ve also found them at Vitacost and at Amazon, so if you’re already placing an order at either of those places, it would be easy to pop one of these into your cart, as well. 🙂
What would you use Dr. Woods soap on?
Disclosure: I was provided by the company with a bottle of soap to facilitate my review. They have also provided a bottle for the Naturally Healthy Baby giveaway coming up. As always, all opinions expressed here are entirely my own.
