I’m Dreaming of a Green Christmas
I have to admit that I got this book as a review copy through the Amazon Vine program, and it’s not really my cup of tea. The organization of the book was kind of all over the place, I thought the recipes were weird, and I’m not sure whether the gift project ideas are things that would really be appreciated by my family. So I’m giving it away. [UPDATE: Giveaway is over and the winner is Erin M.]
I kind of feel bad giving away a book I didn’t especially like. But I have no philosophical problems with the book (well, it does make a fuss about “global warming,” which I believe is bunk, but that’s to be expected with a “green” book), and it’s well-done. The content was just less relevant to me than I would have liked. So someone who finds it more relevant (and isn’t a concrete-sequential learner/thinker) will probably really like it. 🙂
The beginning of the book has a list of “the ten easiest things you can do to save energy during the holidays.” In my opinion, this was the most valuable part of the book, because they’re just that – easy! Suggestions cover how to get more out of your lights for less (use timers, reflect the light with mirrors, switch strings to LED’s, etc.), burn less fuel (condense shopping trips, use all-natural man-made fireplace logs, etc.), and more.
This is followed by five chapters: nesting, entertaining, trimming, giving, and reflecting. Recipes, craft projects, and other ideas are distributed among these chapters, along with “expert green tips.” I didn’t find this particular form of organization to be very logical, so I have trouble finding things in here. The projects are lovely, though. I especially like the decorations to be made. They’re made of natural materials and have that beauty inherent in things God created. 🙂
The book itself is a high-quality paperback printed on recycled paper, with beautiful monochromatic borders and embellishments on the pages, and full-color photos sprinkled throughout.
