Great Laptop Bag (review)

When I replaced my laptop at the end of last year, I upgraded the size a bit.  Since my laptop is a “desktop replacement,” I like having a larger screen.  This sized my laptop right out of my laptop bag, though!

Finding a new one has been a little tricky because the new computer has an oversized battery than keeps it from fitting in a lot of laptop bags.  But then I found CoolComputerBags.com.

Honestly, I don’t even remember how I found them!  But they make shopping for a computer bag so easy.  They have more traditional laptop bag styles, but then they also have some that look – not-so-much like a computer bag.  Like this Urban Junket bag they sent me to try out.  It doesn’t look like a laptop bag at all, does it?  (It comes in other colors, too.)  In fact, it could be just used as a tote, if you wanted.  But it has a padded compartment in the center for a laptop.  And some handy pockets – a cell phone/mp3 player-type pocket, pen pocket, etc.  It comes with the little bag you see pictured.  It has a slot on one side that can slide down over the handle of your rolling luggage.  And one of my very favorite features – it comes with two shoulder straps.  You can use one in the classic position as a regular shoulder strap.  Or you can use two, hooked in special loops, and wear the thing on your back.  Since I am pretty much always carrying a baby, anything hands-free is good!

Unfortunately, my laptop is just that much too big to fit in the laptop compartment of the 15-inch bag, so I had to size up to the 17-inch.  That makes for a much bigger bag!  But everything fits beautifully – which is one of the strengths of this site.  They actually have the laptop compartment measurements listed for each of their bags, so you can figure out which ones will accommodate your computer.  (Many of the bags, for instance, are big enough around for my laptop, but not quite deep enough.  I could tell this at a glance, though, because the measurements were there.)

Oh!  I almost forgot to mention that it’s eco-friendly!  The lining is made from recycled plastic bottles.  The outer fabric is laminated organic cotton dyed with azo-free dyes.  (Honestly, I don’t know what “azo” is, but I gather that it’s not planet-friendly.  And non-planet-friendly usually means not-people-friendly, too.)

  109. I have THE SAME PROBLEM with my laptop. I have a 17″ Mac and I can’t find a bag cute enough, big enough and functional enough to my liking.
