Many of you probably remember Golden Records. One of the earliest and most successful children’s labels in America, Golden Records released classic songs and stories that enchanted children for decades.
The label is back – with the modern technology of CD’s instead of LP’s! Just released (and available at Wal-Mart, Amazon, iTunes, etc.) is the first volume in the celebrity series. Once again, the album contains classic stories and classic songs. But in this series, celebrity voices are doing the reading and singing. Alicia Silverstone, Susan Sarandon, Didi Conn, etc. present old favorites.

I have to confess that I appreciate the nostalgic nature of this album. I also appreciate the inherent drama. (This is just plain FUN to listen to.)
The celebrity series has a unique appeal, in that our children will recognize many of these names. It is an unfortunate fact of modern life that it’s sometimes difficult for our children to appreciate the classic. They’re so accustomed to being surrounded by technology and a fast pace that that’s what often grabs their attention. So for some children, the familiar names may be just the last little nudge that’s needed to draw them in to this more traditional children’s entertainment, giving them exposure to something a bit less modern.
