Frostbeard‘s candles caught my eye especially because of this particular candle variety: Spooky Stories. Now, I have no particular affinity for actual spooky stories, but I do have an affinity for an autumn characterized by the things this candle is designed to encapsulate: dry leaves, campfire, & cocoa. This description brings to mind fall evenings gathered around the campfire, bundled up in flannel and roasting marshmallows.
Frostbeard’s clean-burning soy candles come in a variety of scents, each inspired by different books or book-related concepts, and rotating seasonally.
I thought that Spooky Stories smelled a little weird, to be honest, although it’s more balanced when it’s actually burning than if you sniff it “dry.” (When it’s not melted the cocoa scent seems to dominate, so it sort of just smells sweet with mild dirt undertones. The smoky smell comes through more strongly when it’s lit, and balances out the sweetness.)
I prefer other scents I’ve smelled.
The candles come in several different sizes, but I find the tins especially useful for travel and for prepping, since there isn’t any glass to get broken. My daughter and I also use our candles for melting sealing wax for letters.
I love these as a perfect junction of practical preparedness, and aesthetic fun.
