Hair chalking is all the rage right now, especially among the tween/teen crowd.  This set of Color Rox Hair Chox by Fashion Angels is a fun kit that includes not only the chalks, but also a few tools for stringing colorful beads onto the hair to complement your colored strands.

The Chox are sticks of the chalk itself, with foam “handles” attached.  Maybe we are simply not fair-haired enough, but we actually had some difficulty getting the color to transfer well to our hair.  It transferred to our fingers just fine, but it didn’t seem to want to get on our hair (wet or dry), even with a firm “coloring” motion and pressure directly on the chalk portion itself (as opposed to the handle).  We’re very new to hair chalking, though, so it’s possible we just did something wrong.

Also included in the kit are plastic laces, pony beads, and a handy threader to help you thread the beads onto your hair.

Although we struggled a bit with these, I think that a preteen girl would have fun experimenting with them.  (I know my own daughters are looking forward to playing with them more.)
