Speaking of mothering, GK Chesterton said, “I can understand how it might exhaust the mind, but I cannot imagine how it could narrow it. How can it be a large career to tell other people’s children about arithmetic, and a small career to tell one’s own children about the universe? How can it be broad to be the same thing to everyone, and narrow to be everything to someone? No; a woman’s function is laborious because it is gigantic, not because it is minute. I will pity Mrs. Jones for the hugeness of her task; I will never pity her for its smallness.”
I think that all of homemaking is the same way: homemakers have to be able to do a little bit of a lot of different things: cook, nurse, janitor, dietician, counselor….It’s almost like being a Jack-of-all-trades. (Jane-of-all-trades? 😉 ) This is why I say that homemaking is “not a niche pursuit.”
A niche is, by definition, a narrow focus. My life is not like that! (As I’m sure yours is not.) There is not one single, narrow focus or emphasis. There are dozens of things that I must balance. Therefore, here at Titus 2 Homemaker you will always find dozens of topics! If it’s relevant to a homemaker, I consider it fair game. And what isn’t?!
