If you have little girls, I’m sure you’ve seen the “princess shoes” like we have. Silly, cheap pieces of plastic – but my daughters love them. Even the toddler.
Problem is, they are slippery. Livia shuffles along in them, and then her feet go sliding off to the side, and I was concerned that one of these days they might even cause her to fall down the stairs. (!) So I decided to make them slip-resistant. Here were my supplies:
(I also used a pair of scissors.) The shoes, and a package of bathtub decals that were one of Amazon’s new “add-on” items. (I tried for ages to find this sort of bathtub decal locally, without success. I could only find the more 3-dimensional things.) They look like this:
See how there’s an inner and an outer piece? I popped them apart and then cut the petals apart. (I did some more trimming of the shapes afterward. Next time I’ll know to just do that all at once.)
Then I just peeled the backing and stuck them onto the shoes. (Actually, that’s not precisely true. Since my girls have been using their shoes already, I cleaned the bottoms first with rubbing alcohol and let them dry thoroughly. If they were new, I wouldn’t have bothered.) The reviews of these decals at Amazon say that they didn’t stay stuck well, but I’m guessing that since they aren’t soaking in a bathtub they’ll be just fine. If they do fall off, well, I’ll just superglue them on. So far, though, they’ve held up just fine.
I did both of these shoes with one decal “sheet,” and still had some pieces left over, so a package of decals should do plenty of shoes!
Helping my kids avoid falling works for me. 🙂
