My daughter has heard me talk recently about the pop culture phenomenon from my childhood known as slap bracelets. One major advantage of these bracelets is that they’re pretty easy to put on and take off. One manufacturer has brilliantly appropriated this concept for use in a watch!
When I heard about the Slap Watch, my first thought was that it would be great for kids. My children have a hard time buckling regular watches, so they constantly require help, the watches get left places because they took them off and couldn’t get them back on, etc. The Slap Watch solves these problems.
In practice – it actually does. My daughter (almost 9) says “it’s cool!” Why? “I like it because it’s easy to put on. You just slap it.” The rubbery band is very sturdy and easy to wipe off. The face can be popped out and interchanged with other bands. (This offers a lot of different color combination options!) The band wraps a pretty good way around my tiny 8-year-old’s wrist. It would fit just fine on a much larger person, as well. (Older adults with less-than-nimble fingers could appreciate the lack of buckles just as much as my children.)
Our only complaint with this watch is the face. The very people who can most benefit from the unique no-fastener construction will probably have some difficulty reading this watch because not all of the numbers are printed on the face. It has only the 3, 6, 9, and 12. We wish it had a full set of numbers on the face to make telling the time a little easier.
The Slap Watch comes in ten different colors. Most of them are pretty bold, but they include both black and white, if you’re looking for basic. I think that makes for something like 100 potential combinations. (Math is not my strength.) It also means those of you in large families can color-code your kids. 😉
Bottom line: We like it – especially for children or the elderly or those with physical limitations – but would like it better with all of the numbers printed on the clock.
Disclosure: I received 2 Slap Watches from the company to facilitate this review. All opinions in this post are purely my own.
