I started this series on submission a while back, and then things got a bit crazy around here (have I mentioned that I’ve not had a kitchen sink or counter for four weeks now?), and I forgot to go back to it. So here I am, finally getting back to it.
In case you missed them, here are parts 1 (an introduction to the series) and 2 (a general definition of submission). It’s now time to jump into specific examples. And here I have a request: please, send me any real-life examples (positive or negative) you can think of. (Any examples used will remain anonymous!) I have a couple of examples in mind to start with, but more would be helpful, I’m sure. And, while I certainly mess up regularly enough myself, my sin nature likes to overlook my own mistakes and forget them quickly, so I can run unreasonably short on examples from my own life. I will start with one of my own, though.

This particular example was completely unintentional, and yet it demonstrates the impact the “little things” can have on our relationships. My younger daughter was in her high chair eating some dry cereal and had finished what was on her tray. She asked for more. Michael told her that she had had enough but, before I had a chance to fully process his comment, I gave her more.
Now, as I said, in this particular instance, my lack of submission was completely accidental, but that didn’t make it any more submissive! Intentional or not, I had just directly contradicted my husband’s wishes (and to my children, no less!). We can tend to overlook these instances as “insignificant,” but it’s a pretty safe bet that our husbands notice them.
So now what? Apologize. I had to go to my husband and confess that I had defied his wishes and ask for his forgiveness (which he readily gave).
What about you? Have you been less than submissive in any “little things”?
