Happy International Tongue Twister Day!
Tongue twisters are a lot of fun. They make us laugh, which is good for our health (emotional and physical). They help us practice our diction/enunciation. (This can be especially helpful for those who have speech difficulties. If you find a tongue twister with the sounds that need work, it makes for a not-too-boring way to practice.) And they build our powers of concentration.
So to add to the fun, here are ten original tongue twisters. I’ve written these just for this post. Some are sillier than others — and due to the variation in length, some will bear repeating more than others. (That is, some you might just say once. Others may be more of a “say this ___ times fast” kind of thing.)
Enjoy!
1. Twelve twittering elves twist twine twice.
2. Quick Queen Quincy quietly questions quivering querents.
3. Cheating cheetahs chide chilly children.
4. Rain races, rushes, runs — rivulets rutting roads, ruining rides.
5. Every aging elder in the eldest alder thicket seeks the illest eldest alder so the elders all can oil it.
6. If you banter when you’re bitter it may butter up your bitter so your bitter becomes better because banter betters bitter.
7. This thin thinker thickens three thrilling threads.
8. Thirty thirsty thrifters thrift thermoses and thistle tea.
9. Patient Penny plies her pencil ‘til the pencil pierces paper, pops its point and prickles Penny.
10. Army ants and elk antlers (You wouldn’t think this would be much of a tongue twister, but it’s surprisingly tricky!)
