The Tallest of Smalls by Max Lucado
Ages 4-7
Retails for $16.99
It has not been long since I reviewed Max Lucado’s Fearless. Since then, I’ve been given the opportunity to review The Tallest of Smalls, also by Max Lucado and based on a portion of that very book. The Tallest of Smalls is one of his fabulous children’s stories. Written for ages 4-7, this hardcover storybook is published by Tommy Nelson and retails for $16.99.
If you’re familiar with Max Lucado’s children’s stories, I’m sure you can guess that you are in for a treat with this one. If you’re not familiar – boy, are you missing out! In typical Max Lucado style, The Tallest of Smalls uses a fictional setting to make an important spiritual point. In this case, the message is that we are precious to Jesus just because we’re His. We do not need to – nor should we – seek to elevate ourselves. Instead, we should just be ourselves. Pastor Lucado’s signature rhymes and Maria Monescillo’s whimsical illustrations make this a delightful read.
My daughter’s very articulate (or not – ahem) opinion is, “I like it.” Even as an adult, I appreciate the reminder that my value is found in God’s love for me, and not in anything I do, or what I look like.
Like Ariel, “I like it.” 🙂 I’m not sure I could bring myself to pay $17 for a 28-page book, but this probably isn’t unreasonable; I just consistently choke on the prices of books nowadays. It would be a good wish-list item for the coming holidays – something for doting grandparents to purchase, perhaps?

I haven’t read Fearless, but now i’m anxious to!
