I mentioned a couple days ago that I’d been working on some craft projects.  (At least, I think I did.)  A lot of my projects have been for craft swaps at Craftster, so I haven’t wanted to post pictures (in case my swap partners are checking out my blog).  Don’t want to ruin any surprises!  But one of my partners has received her package, so I can post about it.

I made a wallet from the pattern at Dixie DIY.  The sewing isn’t all as neat as I would have liked (thick fabric doesn’t work well for this; there were parts I had to fight the sewing machine over) but, overall, I am quite pleased with it.

The bulk of the wallet is made from a grey wool.  (That’s the part that’s too thick – where pocket parts overlap, the seams were terrible to sew.)  It has red piping, and the pockets are lined with a red print.

The coin pocket instructions were really hard for me to figure  out.  It took me days (to understand the instructions)!  A good bit of the difficulty was that the creator’s photos use a wallet that is all of the same fabric, so I couldn’t really see what was what in the pictures.  I took pictures as I went, so hopefully this will help someone else.  (I don’t want to usurp anything, so I’ll just post my pictures, and tell you which step they go with.)

I think there is a step missing from the instructions.  After completing all of the instructions for the coin pocket, the lower edge of the pocket will need to be sewn shut.  (The sides will be closed up in a later step, when the wallet is assembled.)  Just match up the bottom edges of the pocket, flip the pocket away from the wallet outside (you’re not stitching it to the wallet here!), and seam the bottom edge of the pocket.  Then go on with the remaining instructions.
