I put a number of books on hold a while back that were on my “to-read” list, but which had long “lines” of people waiting for them at the library. A whole bunch of them came available all at once and, unfortunately, a number of them still had people waiting for them, which means they aren’t renewable. So I only had them for two weeks — the whole bunch. This, in turn, means that I have been reading like a madwoman these last couple of weeks, trying to get through them before they have to go back! As a consequence, I’ve been neglecting a lot of other things, not the least of which is this blog.
I practically need a GPS to find my way around my desk at the moment, but you can probably expect to be seeing bits and pieces of my notes from what I’ve been reading over the next month or two as I catch up and get a chance to get them typed up and put in some sort of order.
And I’ve finished all of the books that had people waiting for them so, as long as no one puts any of the others on hold in the next week or two, I should be much less frantic now! In the meantime, I’ve read a number of very good books lately (the library books, and a couple others I read shortly before the onslaught, along with a Bible study I’m reading during my quiet times), which I can recommend.
Spiritual Growth Books:
The Discipline of Grace
Living on the Edge This one is intended as a tool for discipleship. I haven’t finished it yet, so I can’t totally vouch for it, but what I’ve read so far is very good. Very practical and concrete, but grounded in Scripture.
Health Books:
Healing the New Childhood Epidemics Primarily about autism, ADHD, asthma, and allergies, I think there is something here of benefit for anyone with any type of chronic health issue. (They all seem to have the same few root causes, just different manifestations.)
Making a Good Brain Great This one is about good brain and mental health.
The Diet Cure Problems caused by low-fat/low-calorie dieting and certain metabolic and/or hormonal imbalances are discussed here. I was amazed at how similar the protocols in Healing the New Childhood Epidemics were to the protocols in this one.
(Gluten-Free) Cookbooks:
The Spunky Coconut Cookbook
The Gluten-Free Almond Flour Cookbook
I have checked books out all at once and had to rush through them before but never ones I had to request. Hope you have enjoyed the break.
