Options can seem to be scarce when it comes to trying to find organic, GMO- and gluten-free foods for emergency storage. Often preservatives are used to ensure foods can maintain a long shelf life. Other chemicals are also added to canned foods commonly used for emergency storage to ensure that they don’t spoil over time. While it may seem like one is doomed to settle for lower quality foods in the case of an emergency, this is not necessarily so. There are many things you can do to ensure that your food storage contains natural, healthy foods.
Emergencies Happen
No one ever plans for an emergency to happen. But when you least expect it, disaster can strike and leave you vulnerable. This is why it is important to plan ahead for yourself and your family to ensure you have proper food reserves in stock in case of an emergency. If power goes out, or supply of food suddenly gets low, your family is counting on you to have their needs taken care of. While planning for emergencies is not fun at first, it will give you an enormous sense of relief to know you have a backup reserve in case something does happen.
Quality Shouldn’t Suffer
Since there are fewer options available to those who have higher standards for food quality, it may seem like one should simply have lower standards in the case of an emergency. While it is true that when food is scarce one is better off eating unnatural food than nothing at all, with the gift of foresight and planning you can prevent yourself from being left with these limiting options. In the case of an emergency, you don’t just want to squeak by. You will want your full mental capacity and wits about you so that you can think with a clear head in order to make life saving decisions.
Dehydrated Gluten-Free Foods
Contrary to what it may seem, there are a wide array of natural healthy emergency food storage options available. Dehydrated gluten free foods are a great option for creating emergency reserves. Fruits, vegetables and chicken bits are all available in dehydrated forms to give you the necessary sustenance you need in case of an emergency.
Non-GMO Brands
When gathering emergency storage foods, look for brands that are GMO-free. Find the foods that are organic and all-natural. Also look at the sodium levels of particular brands and opt for the one with the lowest sodium level content. Extra salt can create thirst and actually produce feelings of nausea on the stomach, causing upset in digestion and elimination. You can also find lactose-free options for food storage items. For those who have a gluten or milk intolerance, there is no question as to the debilitating effect these foods can have.
Set a Good Example
In the best case scenario, where no disaster strikes, there are still benefits to stocking up with all-natural, organic, healthy foods. For one thing, as mentioned earlier, having such a reserve will instill a sense of calm, well-being and order to the family which will produce feelings of harmony and safety to all members. Also, by making sure to stock up with health-promoting foods, you set a good example for your family; you send a message that health is important, not just when it’s convenient or when you have a little extra cash to spend on organic produce. No, natural whole foods are at the top of the list and are essential to creating a healthy life.
Hopefully by now, if you were questioning whether it was possible or even worth it to stock up on organic natural foods in case of an emergency, you now see its importance. Plan ahead and decide now what you will do in case of an emergency.
