A&E is affiliated with a number of networks, producing a variety of audiovisual recordings. These include the Biography and History channels (and their associated videos) and Lifetime. My readers are probably most familiar with them, though, in association with BBC, as the creators of such productions as Pride & Prejudice (the longer versions).
If you liked that, and Emma, and similar projects, you will love this new A&E collection. The Romance Collection
contains ten different classic stories on thirteen discs, with a total run time of almost thirty hours! The following titles are included in the set:
- Pride & Prejudice
- Victoria & Albert
- Emma
- Jane Eyre
- Catherine the Great
- The Mayor of Casterbridge
- The Magnificent Ambersons
- Tess of the d’Urbervilles
- Vanity Fair
- The Great Gatsby
Some of these are old favorites for me; others I’m not familiar with. I’m looking forward to viewing those, though, as A&E/BBC productions have such a reputation for accuracy.
The packaging for this set is well thought-out. The DVD’s are in slim cases, with multiple discs per case, and corralled in a slipcase. Together, they take up no more space than three or four “regular” DVD’s. This is space-saving way to get all of these movies. It’s also cost-effective. Although the MSRP is $99.95, you can purchase the set on Amazon for less than $60.
This would make a fabulous family gift, as families will be able to enjoy the classic stories together. Toss in some popcorn for a family movie night basket.
