If your power went out as a result of a winter snowstorm, would you be prepared? Do you have canned foods (and a manual can opener!) or something else that can be easily prepared without electricity? Have you considered freeze dried meals like those from Prepare Wise? I certainly wouldn’t want to eat freeze-dried foods on a regular basis, but they could be helpful to have on hand in case of emergency – especially because they don’t require a lot of storage space. And it’s good to eat your food storage items on occasion so they’re familiar. (That way if there were a real emergency, your kids wouldn’t starve from sheer refusal to eat the “weird food” you’re serving them.) (Try the stuff at preparewise.com for camping, too.)
Apart from food, are you prepared? Would you have water? Heat? Light?
What if there were a longer emergency? I know we’d be okay for several days, but much longer than that, and we might not be so prepared. And if we were cut off from the city water supply for whatever reason, that would cause us a problem.
What are you doing to prepare for emergencies?
