BellyMoms
In-between the never-ending snow and the never-ending rain, we got a brief day or two of warmth and sunshine – which meant I finally got the chance to wear the dress that BellyMoms Maternity sent me!
I’ve been desperately trying to make my maternity wardrobe work for far longer than I had planned and it was incredible to actually put on something “summery” for a change. This dress is really, really soft, too, which was a definite bonus for my first warm-weather outfit of the year.
So what’s the dress? It’s the Angelina Crossover Nursing Dress from BellyMoms Maternity. BellyMoms considers it a nursing dress, rather than a maternity and nursing dress, but I wore it just fine at 5 months pregnant.
Honestly, this dress wasn’t at the top of my list of BellyMoms items to try, because they have so many other items that are a better fit for my Type 2 personality (Rachel has some great posts about Type and Color as related to fashion). However, that said, I was happy enough with the dress that I’m planning to try out more of their clothing. The dress washed up well (it’s been washed and NOT ironed in all these photos) and was quite comfortable. In fact, I ended up wearing it during my 3-year-old’s first night of tee-ball, which ended up being parent participation required and, despite feeling ridiculous, I was able to move around just fine – even while wrangling the 2-year-old who desperately wanted to get down and play. I wish I had photos from that!
Things to Be Aware Of
I do have a couple of notes about the dress and website, but I don’t want to call them cons, because they’re not really anything bad – just stuff to be aware of.
1. The dress didn’t have a tag with washing instructions. After putting in the washing machine, I hung it up to dry and it seemed to wash well without wrinkling much, if at all. The sleeves got a sort of ruffled look, which I kind of like, because it softened up the look of the dress up just a tad.
2. In these photos, you can’t really tell that it’s a v-neck/crossover bodice, because I’m wearing a black camisole underneath. That’s because a) the fabric is thin and b) I am not small-chested, so I liked having that extra layer for modesty reasons. It may have been a totally unnecessary step and, obviously, would make it harder to nurse in, but it made me more comfortable wearing the dress the first time.
I really love the look of the Bellisa Nursing Top – the draped cowl neck is just my style. This is going on my list of post-baby clothing needs!
