BREAKING NEWS!!!
Those of you who have been reading here for a while know that, while I support breast cancer research, I have discouraged any support of the Susan G. Komen Foundation. This is because they have, for years, been supporting Planned Parenthood financially.
Apparently, last week, they defunded Planned Parenthood — and they’re receiving complaints. Please take a quick moment to write to them (news @ komen.org) and thank them for defunding Planned Parenthood!
Thank you for posting this! I am so glad that they are choosing to end support of Planned Parenthood, and I pray they will stick with their decision. The cure for cancer is such an important cause. I’m glad that I can support the Susan G. Koman Foundation again.
Debbi is right, the cure for cancer is an important cause. So is saving lives of women that can’t afford to go to a regular doctor for a screening. Planned Parenthood is helping that cause. I’m glad SGK changed their mind.
Actually, most PP’s don’t do cancer screening – including most of the ones that were getting SGK money, supposedly in the aim to “protect women against breast cancer.” SGK would have been better off sending money to regular doctors and making arrangements for it to be used as “scholarships,” so to speak, for those who can’t otherwise afford screening. (The jury is out on mammograms, anyway. Some suspect that mammograms may cause cancer – they direct radiation straight into the breast tissue.)
Thank you for reminding me I need to do a follow-up post, though.
