A while back I read a product (ebook? ecourse?) called Create Your Own Products in a Flash. Almost in passing, the author referenced something called “conscious competence.” This is concept with which I was familiar, but I hadn’t had a name for it before. It excited me, because “conscious competence” is the reason I blog here at Titus 2 Homemaker!
Conscious Competence & Titus 2 Homemaker
See, conscious competence is when you are able to do something and you know how you do it, as opposed to unconscious competence, where you can do something, but you may not consciously know how — you “just do it.”
I am not innately domestic. At first blush, that puts me totally out of the running for writing a homemaking blog! But, actually, it gives me an “edge” in certain areas. Many of the people who are best at things like cooking, cleaning, and organizing find that these come very naturally to them. That’s great for them, but not necessarily great for the rest of us. When it comes to explaining how to do these things, they sometimes aren’t the best-equipped.
These things do not come naturally to me, so I’m not (nearly!) the best at any of them. But what I do know how to do, I have very deliberately learned, so I know exactly how I do it, and I can tell you, too.
When it comes to learning something, I can more readily learn from someone with a little bit of “conscious competence” than from someone with a vast amount of “unconscious competence.” I hope that you can also benefit from my little bit of conscious competence!
